Our Mission
Our mission is to provide inspirational adventure experiences on a beautiful wooden boat. We want our guests to get hands-on with the unique maritime heritage of Britain and to experience the thrills of sailing; enabling them to enjoy living within nature, harnessing her power and bringing them closer to the elements and to one another as a result. We believe that everyone and anyone should be able to share in these experiences, regardless of their race, age, sexuality, religion, disabilities, or gender identity and expression. We aim to achieve this in a way that impacts our seas and the rest of our environment as minimally as possible.
More about us
We love boats, we love sailing and we love the experience of meeting new people and involving them in our world. We have thousands of sea miles under our belts and have sailed all over the world. We have a great deal of experience in the Channel area where we have been based for many years. Nic, who is generally the Skipper, is a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Instructor/Examiner. The first mate will vary depending on the trip but will usually also be RYA qualified.
From City Streets to the Open Seas
Although Nic had sailed since childhood, she did the university thing and then developed a career in London as a Project Manager within Telecoms and Investment Banking. While this career choice certainly paid the bills, the call of the sea had been growing in her for many years and in 2006 she decided a career change was in order, and that traditional wooden boats would be just the thing.
After deciding that Luke Powell was going to be the perfect person to create her dream, Nic got him to build a boat specifically with chartering in mind. Stunning, sturdy and solid, with plenty of space below decks and with the best Fridge, Cooker, Heating, Power and Safety Systems the budget could buy, Amelie Rose is a fine vessel upon which to carry out our mission. Nic has been giving people the opportunity to sail for years now, and really enjoys the journey that people take, from their first hesitant steps aboard, to confidently helming into an anchorage under sail. Nic’s passion and enthusiasm for sail seems to rub off on others too, as many folks often return again and again.
If you’d like to find out more about Nic’s journey from City Worker to Boat Bum you might be interested to know that you can book her as a speaker for any event, large or small, just send us an email or use the contact tools on this site.
