AR19-22 The whole Pellew Shebang!

Two coastal cruises and the launch of the biggest new pilot cutter in a 100 years - literally a once in a lifetime adventure!

Adventure Summary

Combine the Pellew launch with both the trip there and back from Beaulieu to Falmouth harbour along the stunning Jurassic coastline, past the iconic headlands of Portland Bill and Start Point, visiting historic harbours like Dartmouth, Fowey and Poole along the way.

Every so often there comes a chance for us to take part in the launch of something significant. A new business, a project, or even a marriage. Launching boats is like all of these rolled together and more. We will remember the day that Amelie Rose was launched for the rest of our lives, it’s something really special and being part of that is an experience not to be missed.

The launch of Luke Powell’s new build, The Pellew, promises to be something even more special however. This is the largest wooden gaff cutter to be launched in the UK for over 100 years, but she is already so much more than just a boat. She lies at the heart of an incredible project designed to establish a new traditional boat building and sailing community in the heart of Cornwall.

Amelie Rose will be sailing down to Cornwall to join Luke’s own boat Agnes as an honour guard to welcome their sister Pellew as her keel touches the water for the first time. Come rain or shine it’s going to be a magical weekend and one that none of us will ever forget – a truely once in a lifetime experience.

Join us as we sail to Cornwal, spend a few days sailing in company with Agnes, exploring the local creeks and havens before heading up river to Truro to lie alongside the quay for a ringside seat as Pellew touches the water for the very first time. There’s always a great party afterwards and you’ll be amoung the first folks to set foot aboard what is bound to become one of the most iconic ships in a generation – a story to tell your grandkids!

And then to top it all you get another 4 day cruise back up the stunning Jurassic Coast to Beaulieu, taking in any harbours alonf the way that we missed out on the way down!

Itinerary

You’ll be joining us at Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River on the Sunday evening, where you can enjoy a meal at the Master Builders Hotel and meet the other guest crew. With food and introductions complete we’ll move to the boat where you’ll find yourself a bunk, stow your gear and have a look around. Before we head to our bunks we’ll usually have a chat about the plan for the following day.

Depending on the times of the tides at Hurst Narrows and St Albans Head we may have an early start or the morning may be fairly relaxed but either way we’ll eventually head downriver and out into the Western Solent bound for either Yarmouth, Studland Bay or Weymouth. The rest of the route will depend on the tides and weather but typical destinations include; Dartmouth, Salcombe, The Yealm, Plymouth & Cawsand Bay, Fowey and the Helford River.

There may be some night-sailing involved and almost certainly a night or two at anchor as well as harbour visits. We’ll be aiming to be close to Falmouth by Wednesday night (probably in the Fowey). This will leave just a short hop to get you ashore in Falmouth with plenty of time to extract yourself from Cornwall.

Around Falmouth we’ll be sailing in company with the Agnes geting up to shenanigans and investigating the lovely harbours and havesn that dot this fabulous coastline. Then it’ll be time to head up river to Truro for the big day. With al that behind us we’ll turn tail and run back to Beaulieu – siming to be back in plenty of time for you to wend your way home.
