AR19-20 The Launch of the Pellew

Sail in company with the Agnes and attend the launch of the largest new Pilot Cutter in 100 years! Once in a lifetime stuff.

Adventure Summary

Every so often there comes a chance for us to take part in the launch of something significant. A new business, a project, or even a marriage. Launching boats is like all of these rolled together and more. We will remember the day that Amelie Rose was launched for the rest of our lives, it’s something really special and being part of that is an experience not to be missed.

The launch of Luke Powell’s new build, The Pellew, promises to be something even more special however. This is the largest wooden gaff cutter to be launched in the UK for over 100 years, but she is already so much more than just a boat. She lies at the heart of an incredible project designed to establish a new traditional boat building and sailing community in the heart of Cornwall.

Amelie Rose will be sailing down to Cornwall to join Luke’s own boat Agnes as an honour guard to welcome their sister Pellew as her keel touches the water for the first time. Come rain or shine it’s going to be a magical weekend and one that none of us will ever forget – a truely once in a lifetime experience.

Join us as we spend a few days sailing in company with Agnes, exploring the local creeks and havens before heading up river to Truro to lie alongside the quay for a ringside seat as Pellew touches the water for the very first time. There’s always a great party afterwards and you’ll be amoung the first folks to set foot aboard what is bound to become one of the most iconic ships in a generation – a story to tell your grandkids!

Itinerary

You’ll be joining us in Falmouth on the Thursday night. We normally meet up to enjoy a meal at the Chain Locker & Shipwrights – a bit of a local institution and known to Team Topsail as “The Falmouth Office”.

With food and introductions complete we’ll move to the boat where you’ll find yourself a bunk, stow your gear and have a look around. Before we head to our bunks we’ll have a chat about plans for the next few days.

Agnes will have already picked up her crew and headed out that morning so early on Friday we’ll be off to join her to get up to some shenanigans and investigate the lovely harbours and havesn that dot this fabulous coastline.

Then it’ll be time to head up river to Truro for the big day.

On Monday – Agnes and Amelie Rose will take their leave and head back downriver to drop you off in plenty of time to escape from Cornwall and head home.
