AR22-07 St Mawes Pilot Cutter Review

Our favourite annual event - the pilot cutter tribe assemble in Cornwall for a week of racing and shore-side fun.

Adventure Summary

It’s the highlight of the Pilot Cutter year as boats from all over the country head to the St Mawes Pilot Cutter Review for a week of racing and shoreside frolics in this stunning Cornish harbour. There’s always plenty of action on the water but the camerarderie ashore is what really makes this event special.

It’s the longest running of the Pilot Cutter events, regularly attracting a big fleet of these magnificent boats to engage in the friendliest of rivalries. There’s no need for bulging muscles and a head full of rules, just turn up and enjoy.

Amelie Rose won the event in 2015 and has been on the podium in 3 out of the last 5 years so there’s everything to play for and we really hope that you’ll come along to join in the fun.

Itinerary

This gathering of Pilot Cutters from around the Channel is without doubt our favourite annual UK event. Everybody is welcome and the parties ashore will make sure that you’ll soon feel like part of the family.

Initerary:

Tuesday – Join the boat, get acquainted with your new home, dinner with the rest of the crew ashore at a local pub.

Wednesday – Cruise to the fascinating port of Charlestown whilst learning how to sail the Amelie Rose, enjoy a welcoming event with the Harbour Team.

Thursday – A Cruisey race to Fowey (via a mystery turning mark) spend the evening at Fowey Gallants overlooking beautiful Fowey Harbour and the gathered cutters.

Friday – Take part in a “passage race” from Fowey to St Mawes then off to the Social Club for briefings and food.

Saturday – Two “round the cans” style races around Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads, head up the Fal to Ruan Pontoon where the boats raft up and share a BBQ.

Sunday – A late start and one more race around the cans before we head to the St Mawes Sailing Club for results and cheering!

Monday – Gather yourself together, wave farewell to your new Pilot Cutter “family” and head back home…
